What Is BPD?

Hey, baddies! Today, I am going to answer a question I get a lot, which is "What even is BPD?". I'm so very glad you asked. BPD, AKA borderline personality disorder, is a cluster B personality disorder. Don't worry, I don't expect you to understand what that means right away; we'll talk about disorder clusters more later. But for now, let's discuss BPD. To start, let me make it clear that borderline personality disorder is NOT bipolar disorder. They are separate disorders in the same cluster. Lots of love to my bipolar babes, though! BPD and BPD symptoms/characteristics affect nearly 6% of the population. 1.6% of the US population are diagnosed with BPD and 75% of those are women. While you may experience many, and by many I mean most, BPD symptoms in your teenage and adolescence years, you cannot get an official diagnosis in the US until you reach 18 years of age. I was 15 when I got diagnosed, but I got diagnosed in a different country, which is why that was possible. So now we know what BPD is, but "how do I know if I have it?" you may ask. I am by no means a licensed psychologist, so I cannot tell you whether you have BPD or not, but what I can tell you is if you have any symptoms of BPD and are wondering whether you have it or not, do NOT self-diagnose. Go to a licensed psychologist to get a proper diagnosis. In the next post, we'll talk about some symptoms of BPD and what each one means. I hope this post has deemed useful to you in any way. Bye, baddies!
